PASTORAL – ART @ COMPOTES – FOREST GATE

CbCV8mdWwAEaC7d

By Robert White

Compôtes

118 Woodgrange Road, Forest Gate, London, E7 0EW

Bakery, deli, café.

On Friday 12th February 2016, I went to see the opening of the Pastoral art exhibition at Compôtes in Forest Gate, east London. There was some wonderful art on display. The exhibition was curated by Gabrielle Luca Iozzi and featured exhibits by the following artists: Giuseppe Iozzi, Sabela Mahlangu, Fungai Marima, Jose Pindian, and Robert White.

Pastoral is open free to view at Compôtes until March 12th 2016.

The cakes and soup at Compôtes are particularly good. The freshly baked bread is top notch. Compôtes is close to both Forest Gate and Wanstead Park train stations.

KASAI MASAI AT FOREST ROOTS

Dear Forest Roots Folk

Summer is nearly here or so we thought a couple of weeks ago! Thought it was too good to last. Anyway, we welcome back Kasai Masai (see http://www.kasaimasai.com) who are sure to bring some sunshine into our lives.

They are a band of truly wonderful musicians once again bringing their unique African sounds to Forest Roots. As usual we will have surprise guests and local singers as well as The Flats Family Band and, after forsaking us as he had a gig, Nick Pickett will be back too.

This will be the last night before the summer as otherwise we would be competing with a much bigger event. Not allowed to say the word due to copyright issues but you know what I mean.

So that’s Kasai Masai at Forest Roots on Friday 29th June, at The Lord Rookwood, 314 Cann Hall Road, Forest Gate, London, E11 3NW.

LEON HUNT AT FOREST ROOTS

Dear Forest Roots Folk

This month at Forest Roots we are very lucky to have Leon Hunt www.leonhunt.com. He is probably the UK’s foremost banjo player. He plays all styles of 5-string banjo, not just bluegrass but also jazz and Irish. He studied with the renowned American banjo virtuoso, Bela Fleck and he is also a member of the Daily Planet as well as doing lots of sessions for various well known artists. He will be ably accompanied by Chris Haigh on fiddle www.fiddlingaround.com and Paul Kerr on vocals and guitar.

Check him out on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehSTssRUTRk and there is much more …

Leon Hunt’s YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/probablyleon?ob=0&feature=results_main

“This is banjo wizardry in a style totally unique.Leonplays with brilliance and soul – you don’t always find the two together” — Mike Harding – BBC Radio

“Leon shines brightest when he whips out a rendition of the Pat Metheny tune ‘James’. With this record he manages to smash all preconceptions about what a banjo can and can’t do and leaves you both satisfied and wanting more.” —Guitarist Magazine

“This record shows how world-class Leon’s playing really is.” — Banjo NewsLetter (USA)

Need I say more? Apart from there will be The Flats Family Band, plus local singers and a surprise guest.

So see you all at Forest Roots on Friday, 27th April at The Lord Rookwood, 314 Cann Hall Road, Leytonstone, London, E11 3NW.
