Centre for Education for Social Justice – Launch and Inaugural Lecture by Tony Benn
Peace, Justice & Knowledge
The First Caroline Benn Memorial Lecture
Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln
Monday 13th October 2008, 6.00pm
The Launch marks what would have been the 82nd birthday of Caroline Benn (1926 – 2000). Caroline devoted her life to education for social justice and was co-founder of the Campaign for Comprehensive Education, and a leading member of the Hillcole Group of Radical Left Educators. Caroline wrote extensively about the roles and purposes of education. Her enduring commitment to education for social justice makes it fitting that the first lecture of the C4E4SJ each academic year is to be named in her honour. We are delighted that this inaugural lecture, Peace, Justice and Knowledge, is to be delivered by her husband, Tony Benn
Details of the aims and purposes of the Centre, its mission and opportunities for membership will be available at the launch. Drinks will be served from 5.30 pm. The inaugural lecture will commence at 6.00 pm and will be followed by a light buffet.
